The Northwestern Regional Housing Authority provides affordable housing for the elderly, disabled, and low- and moderate-income families throughout the northwest region of North Carolina. We have provided safe, affordable housing for tens of thousands of individuals and households with the assistance of our Public Housing and Section 8 Voucher programs. The seven counties that make up our region are Alleghany, Ashe, Avery, Mitchell, Watauga, Wilkes, and Yancey. Our organization’s mission aims to promote adequate and affordable housing for those less fortunate in our communities, providing economic opportunity and a suitable living environment free from discrimination.

Our organization was formed in 1979 and has grown tremendously since then, benefiting a wide variety of community members. Our organization maintains seven field offices and 432 dwelling units spread across 14 NRHA managed developments. Additionally, we offer 5 programs to assist our residents effectively. Our organization provides education and resources in order to promote self-sufficiency, upward mobility, and an improved standard of living. Our organization has received 22 awards for excellence in areas such as innovative adaptive reuse and historic preservation. Our mission has been successfully carried out for more than four decades thanks to the dedication of our employees and partners.
